For those of you keep tracking track, we recently reformulated our Deep Stress formula. Chances are you're wondering – why? What leads to a reformulation? For all those burning questions, we decided to sit down with the brains behind the operation to get the full scoop on this newly optimized, fan favorite.
First, tell us a little about your role at WishGarden.
My work title is VP of Business Development, but my fun title is Manifester and Maker. I'm head of research and development and co-formulator with Catherine who is the founder of WishGarden.
Why did we reformulate Deep Stress?
Originally there were 12 herbs in this formula, and we are hoping to get to a max number of herbs per formula because you'll get to a point where there's repetition and redundancies. And what ends up happening is that redundant herbs actually have a diminishing effect on unique herbs. Deep Stress now has 8 powerful herbs.
Initially, WishGarden focused on bio-regional Herbalism (herbs that are locally grown), and while we still prioritize sourcing locally, only so many herbs grow around here. We found this approach very limiting. By opening up our sourcing to a larger geographic area, we were able to bring in more diverse herbs.
Another consideration is botanical safety. Research is constantly coming out, so the botanical safety handbook is often being updated. We are always staying up to date on these changes and conduct full portfolio reviews. It's important to do your due diligence on a regular basis, as to avoid contraindications or any new risk for our pregnant or lactating population.
Tell us about reformulation process
We approached the reformulation from multiple directions. We looked at the herbs that were already in there, why they are in there and what it was bringing to the table. Then for our second approach, we started from square one, so we could have a fresh perspective. How would we build this from scratch?
It's important to note that bringing a new herb into the company has its own process. We look at sustainability, whether it's organic, if it's sourced domestically, if it has a consistent supply chain, and of course, the safety considerations. We research the plants constituent's profile and determine what solvent system will extract the constituents we are after. Then we do testing for efficacy and taste. Once we are satisfied, we ensure labels are up to date and we go to market!
What does Deep Stress do?
It's a tighter more functional formula than before. This formula incorporates adaptogens, nervines and nutrient rich botanicals to support acute and chronic stress to the nervous system and adrenals. It targets stress that manifests in both physical and mental physiology. It is specifically designed to work on three levels in the body. It supports a healthy stress response and adrenal response, and the nutritive nervines support the nervous system.
It is also designed to work across the board on all three levels of need. This includes in-the-moment support when you are really feeling it, as well as body protecting support during an ongoing stressful period. It is also helpful on a deeper tonic rebuilding level when recovering from long-term adrenal exhaustion.
What's the most exciting part of this formula?
We are excited to be incorporating Ashwagandha as a new botanical into this formula reboot. It has become one of the most recognized and popular botanicals to support everyday stress management and well-being. And as such it is a great addition that nicely checks all the boxes of what this formula is all about and ups the efficacy that much farther.
